You'll help fabricate custom projects using a variety of materials and techniques, including:

  • Fiberglass bodywork and finishing
  • Foam carving and shaping
  • Scenic painting and faux finishes
  • Woodworking and assembly
  • General fabrication and shop work

Every project is different, so you'll have the opportunity to learn new skills and contribute throughout the build process.

  • Has experience in fabrication, scenic art, props, theater, sculpture, woodworking, or a related creative field
  • Is comfortable using hand and power tools (saws, sanders, drills, grinders, etc.)
  • Has experience shaping, sanding, and finishing materials such as fiberglass, wood, foam, or composites
  • Enjoys problem-solving and finding creative solutions
  • Takes pride in quality craftsmanship and attention to detail
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Is dependable, motivated, and eager to learn

Bonus Skills (Not Required):

Seamstress Assistant/Costume Fabricator

This  is a temporary position with both full-time and part-time opportunities  available from mid-July through mid-September. Our normal production  hours are Monday-Friday 8 AM - 4 PM. While sewing experience is  important, we understand that mascot and theatrical costume fabrication  is a specialized field. We are willing to train the right person.

What We're Looking For

More than anything, we're looking for someone who:

  • Listens well and follows directions
  • Is willing to learn new techniques and processes
  • Accepts feedback and coaching with a positive attitude
  • Takes pride in producing quality work
  • Shows up reliably and works well with a team
  • Enjoys creative, hands-on projects

If you're teachable, dependable, and have a solid sewing foundation, we can help you learn the rest.

Responsibilities

  • Construct mascot costumes, theatrical costumes, and specialty garments
  • Operate industrial and standard sewing machines
  • Cut fabrics and materials according to patterns and instructions
  • Assist with costume assembly, repairs, and alterations
  • Perform hand sewing and finishing work
  • Inspect finished pieces for quality and durability
  • Maintain an organized and safe workspace
  • Work with the production team to complete projects on schedule

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sewing, alterations, quilting, cosplay, costume, upholstery, or garment construction experience
  • Ability to read and follow patterns or instructions
  • Attention to detail and good craftsmanship
  • Ability to stand, move materials, and work in a production environment

Why Join Wright Customs?

No  two projects are the same. One day you may be sewing faux fur onto a  mascot costume, and the next you may be helping create a theatrical  character or specialty costume piece. This is a great opportunity to  gain hands-on experience in a creative fabrication environment while  working with a team that values craftsmanship, creativity, and  collaboration.

Future Opportunities

This position is  expected to run from mid-July through mid-September. However, Wright  Customs works on a wide variety of projects throughout the year, and  exceptional candidates with additional skills may have opportunities for  continued employment beyond the temporary position.

Experience  with scenic painting, sculpting, fabrication, woodworking, power tools,  fiberglass, prop building, or other creative trades is a plus, but not  required.

If you're dependable, eager to learn, and enjoy making things, we'd love to hear from you.
